Having a Passion Project can be a powerful way for a teen to distinguish themselves on college and scholarship applications. It demonstrates initiative, commitment, leadership, and a strong sense of purpose, all qualities that colleges look for in their applicants. It allows teens to tell a unique and compelling story about their interests and contributions, ultimately making their application stand out in a competitive admissions process. Zen College Prep is here to help students kickstart their Passion Projects and guide them on their journey to success. What is a "Passion Project"?

For teenagers, a Passion Project is more than just an additional thing to do in their already busy lives. It's an opportunity to explore their interests and develop skills that could lead to future college and career paths. A Passion Project can take many forms. Examples of successful projects include:

  • Creating a documentary film about an environmental issue in the local community.

  • Starting a club or organization to raise awareness for a social cause.

  • Creating posters or flyers featuring adoptable pets from local animal shelters and distributing them to raise awareness about animal adoption.

  • Designing and building a sustainable garden on school grounds.

  • Holding a clothing drive to collect clothing items needed at a local women's shelter.

  • Writing and publishing a collection of short stories or poetry.

  • Developing a website or mobile app to address a specific need or problem.

  • Organizing a fundraising event for a charity or nonprofit organization.

  • Creating an art installation that explores a personal or social theme.

  • Teaching workshops or classes to peers, or younger students, on a subject the student is passionate about.

  • Crafting and launching a student-run magazine or newsletter.

  • Volunteering to read stories to children at a local library.

Designing and implementing a Passion Project allows students to dive deep into a subject they care about while benefiting those in their community, school, and beyond! At Zen College Prep, we work with students to design, implement, and reflect on their Passion Projects as well as help showcase this project on their college and scholarship applications.
